Increase in salary

In 1983, the The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union issued a decree “on measures to further improve the study and teaching of the Russian language in the Union republics.” This resolution is popularly known as the Andropov Decree, which introduced a 16% increase in salaries for teachers of Russian language and literature. This applied to secondary schools, pedagogical, preschool, and out-of-school institutions. The following year, in the Ukrainian SSR, teachers of Russian were paid 15% more than teachers of the Ukrainian language.
