At least 35 attacks on journalists have been carried out in Ukraine

Since Russia began the full-scale war in Ukraine at laest 35 attacks on journalists have been documented, as Maria Ordzhonikidze, the head of Justice for Journalists (JFJ) international foundation, informs.

According to JFJ most of the assaults have been committed by russian troops, part of the attackers is unidentified.

 

Among physical assaults, all of which have been made by russian military, are:

 

Murders of three journalists:

 

  • Journalist Victor Dudar was killed during Mykolaiv attacks;
  • Live cameraman Yevhen Sakun was killed during Kyiv artillery attacks;
  • American Brent Renaud, video journalist, former The New York Times author, was killed at the military checkpoint in Irpin, Kyiv Oblast.

 

10 attempted murders:

 

  • Swiss journalist Guillaume Briquet was injured and robbed by russian troops;
  • Two journalists from Czech media Voxpot, Maida Slamova and Vojtech Bogach, came under russian fire;
  • Two Danish reporters from Ekstra-Bladet – journalist Stefan Weichert and photographer Emil Filtenborg Mikkelsen were shot and wounded;
  • Russian troops attacked British TV team Sky News – chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay and his four colleagues were on their way back to Kyiv when they got ambushed. Ramsay got shot in the back, the cameraman Richie Mockler got saved by his bulletproof vest. 

 

Moreover, it was earlier reported that a journalist Oleh Baturyn has been missing in Kherson Oblast.
