Book Riot, the largest independent editorial book site in North America, is matching donations up to $5,000 to UNICEF to help children in Ukraine, they reported on their website.

Receipts of donations made to UNICEF can be uploaded on the Book Riot website. The total amount raised will be announced at the end of the week.

Book Riot highlighted UNICEF’s efforts in Ukraine, which include:

  • Providing safe water, health care, education, and protection, with 1,000 tons of emergency supplies having been sent to Ukraine
  • Supplying hygiene items (including baby diapers, maternal health kits, disinfectants, bottled water, and more) to health and social institutions
  • Assisting mobile child protection teams that give vital psychosocial and mental health care
  • Initiating a cash transfer program, supporting thousands of vulnerable families
  • Working with the UN Refugee Agency to activate Blue Dot hubs, safe spaces along border crossings that provide vulnerable children and families with information that can lead them to safety

Book Riot urged people to fight against russia’s colonial narrative by reading Ukrainian literature and studying history. They also provided a brief history of Ukraine’s struggle for independence and the russian-Ukrainian war.

As reported earlier, the Ukrainian Book Institute and Federation of European Publishers are crowdfunding to support the printing of Ukrainian children’s books. Two British independent publishers have created an initiative to help refugee children from Ukraine: they are collecting backpacks with the much-needed items.
