Bosnian and Croatian writer and journalist Miljenko Jergović donated his royalties for the Ukrainian edition of “War” published by Tempora Publishing House to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Thank you for supporting Ukraine in its struggle for freedom! Thank you for help, for believing that the cynicism of evil is not to prevail! Thank you for your solidarity! Thank you for the wonderful literature!” representatives of the publishing house wrote.

Jergović published a video with two Ukrainian soldiers, one of whom, Mykhailo Romantsov, the father of literary critic Bohdana Romantsova, was reading and commenting on “War.”

“The man in this video is Mykhailo Romantsov, father of an editor at the publishing house that published the translation of ‘War.’ Romantsov is one of Ukrainians who are defending their country from the invasion of Russia. In the video, he reads and comments on the book. I won’t say more, except that it is important to me and that I am sure that cynicism will not prevail,” Jergović wrote.

The Ukrainian translation, provided by Ukrainian Slavic scholar, literary critic and translator Alla Tatarenko, was published in 2024 by Tempora Publishing House.

“This book is not about any of the many wars we have experienced. This book is not about war at all. This book is about a city under siege and people under siege, both internal and external. The city is the space that they all inhabit. The city is the nervous and cardiovascular system of each of those people,” the annotation to the book reads.
