Lithuanian poet Marius Burokas awarded for translations of Ukrainian poetry

During the opening of the Vilnius International Book Fair, Lithuanian poet and translator Marius Burokas received the highest award of the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, the “Bring Your Light and Faith” badge. This was reported by Chytomo correspondents Victoria Feshchuk and Oleksandr Mymruk.

The award was presented for “the highest professional excellence and human sensitivity in the daily presentation of consistent, reliable and understandable information about the war in Ukraine, translations of Ukrainian poets’ works into Lithuanian and common with the literary community mobilization of measures to support soldiers and Ukrainian writers living in war conditions.”

In his speech, Burokas read a poem by Ukrainian poet Artur Dronis, “The Epistle to the Corinthians”.

Marius Burokas is a Lithuanian poet and translator, a graduate of Vilnius University. His first collection, Ideogramos (Ideograms), was published in Vilnius in 1999. His third book, Izmokau nebūti (I‘ve Learned Not To Be), was awarded several European prizes. He is a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and the Lithuanian Association of Literary Translators.

Also, Marius Burokas has translated Serhiy Zhadan’s poetry collection “tarsi žuvį į juodą krantą” (“like a fish on a black shore”), which will soon be published in Lithuania.
