The first public library in the Warsaw metro will be located at the Kondratowicza station. City authorities describe the library project as “an innovative initiative aligned with global trends promoting reading on public transportation.”

The “Library on the go” (Biblioteka w drodze) will allow readers to autonomously borrow and return books. Additionally, the library will be equipped with a book vending machine. The visitors will find a small reception area, a book exhibition zone, a gallery, a meeting place with authors, and a children’s zone.

“The library, conceived with the concept of a library on the go in mind, eliminates the need to carve out specific time for library visits; it seamlessly integrates into your daily routine. For instance, you can easily access on your way to work while traveling by metro,” stated Grzegorz Kłoda, the project’s author.

The library opening is planned for the second half of 2024.

The project visualizations were developed by the GK-Atelier Grzegorz Kłoda studio.

As reported earlier, Ukrainian libraries and bookstores are also relocating underground.
