The German Publishers and Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels) expressed support for Ukraine following the conversation between US and Ukrainian presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, as informed on the association’s Facebook page.

“We were and remain shocked by Donald Trump and J. D. Vance’s behaviour towards Volodymyr Zelensky. We refuse to be silent bystanders. It is up to all of us to raise our voices and say clearly: this is no way to treat your fellow human beings! We teach every school child that such toxic behaviour and a style of communication aimed at causing pain is unacceptable. It grieves us deeply to be forced to witness such conduct in the international political arena,” representatives of the association underlined.

As reported earlier, in 2022, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, together with its Ukrainian colleagues, launched a project to help publishers, bookstores, and authors. In 2024, the association expressed condolences over the shelling of the Factor Druk printing house in Kharkiv.
