As a result of a Russian strike, the warehouse of Ukrainian publisher Smaki was damaged. During the drone attack on Dnipro on Sept. 30, 2025, Russian forces hit the publisher’s warehouse, leading to the loss of part of its print runs. Smaki publishes global bestsellers on parenting and self-development, including books by Gabor Maté, Carlos González, and Michel Odent.

“Our book warehouse was damaged by a missile strike. And right on our birthday. We lost part of our print runs, but we will definitely recover the losses. We thank everyone who stands with us during this difficult time,” the publishing house wrote.

In a comment to Chytomo, Smaki’s executive director, Natalia Smakovska, explained that the warehouse is located on the ground floor of a five-story building — the Russian drone hit the 5th floor. After the fire, access to the publishing premises was blocked.

At the time of the attack, an employee was inside the warehouse. He was not injured, as he managed to hide between the walls.

“Fortunately, the employee was unharmed — he heard the change in the Shahed’s sound and hid between the walls. Otherwise, he would have been wounded by shrapnel,” Smakovska said.

For now, the publishing house cannot confirm which titles and volumes were damaged: “At the moment, we cannot enter the premises and assess the full extent of the losses.”

People can support Smaki by purchasing books — both print and digital — via the publisher’s website and in bookstores.

As reported, the September 30, 2025 attack on Dnipro damaged more than 20 cars, over 15 buildings, as well as medical and educational institutions. At present, one person has been reported killed and 15 wounded.

Smaki is a young publishing house from Dnipro, founded in 2020. Its mission is to promote awareness around parenting, inclusion, and building a psychologically healthy nation. Moving away from the Soviet past and cultivating new, humane values, the publishing house seeks to “write a new chapter of Ukraine’s history, where the individual and their needs come first.”
