World’s most beautiful books announced

The sixth international picture book illustration competition Nami Concours 2023 has published the list of winners. Among them is the Ukrainian book The Cat, The Rooster, The Locker by Oleksandr Mykhed, illustrated by Yevheniia Polosina. This was reported on the award’s website.

The Ukrainian book was recognized in the Green Island Award nomination. In the future, information about The Cat, The Rooster, The Locker will be added to the Nami Concours 2023 catalog, which will promote the winners.

Oleksandr Mykhed’s book The Cat, The Rooster, The Locker with illustrations by Yevheniia Polosina was published by the Old Lion Publishing House. This is a fairy tale for children and adults, in which the cat, the rooster and the locker, rescued and preserved in Borodyanka, a village destroyed by Russian shelling near Kyiv, are ready to fight and warn of danger. They protect the universe of one family – grandmother Lisa, uncle Andriy, and granddaughter Sonya – a family that cycles through history generation after generation and eventually becomes stronger than ever.

The South Korean Nami Concours is held as a separate project of the Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival. Its goal is to encourage artists to be creative and help improve the quality of book illustration. The competition is held every 2 years and is organized by Nami Island, the official sponsor of the IBBY Hans Christian Andersen Awards.
