The Prague Book Fair has announced a fellowship for a two-day professional program for publishers and experts of the book publishing industry in Central and Eastern Europe.

The International Book Fair and Literary Festival Book World Prague is creating  the CEEBM Fellowship (Central and East European Book Market for the newly created Central and East European Book Fair in Prague on May 23-24 2024, according to the book fair’s website.

The Prague Book Fair extends an invitation to its program for “all professionals actively engaged in the literary and book industry.” Specifically aimed at those from Central and Eastern European book markets, the program seeks to serve as a spotlight for these markets. The initiative aims to “foster connections” between German and Eastern European literary traditions, “through the shared heritage and the pathway to mutual influence via the concept of Central Europe.”

During the program presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities among participants will occur. Additionally, the program provides personal face-to-face meetings with business colleagues from the book markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

In an exclusive comment to Chytomo, Jitka Hanušová, the program coordinator, stated that the goal is to extend invitations not just to readers, but also to professionals in the book industry—publishers, literary agents, and others—to the Prague Book Fair. While the program primarily targets publishers from Central and Eastern Europe, there are no strict limitations on participation.

“Our purpose is to make Prague the heart of the Central and Eastern European book markets, and possibly the whole Europe, just as Gothenburg is the center for the Scandinavian countries,” Hanušová said

The PPF Foundation is the sponsor of the fair. Publishers are invited to apply via email [email protected]
