Netflix has bought the rights for streaming 7 Ukrainian films, three of which are screen adaptations of Ukrainian literary works. This was confirmed by Film.ua Distribution in their comment to The Village Ukraine.

The films in question are:

  • My Thoughts Are Quiet by Antonio Lukich;
  • The Rising Hawk by Akhtem Seitablayev and John Wynn;
  • Viddana by Christina Sivolap;
  • Foster and Max by Anatolii Mateshko;
  • The Stronghold by Yuriy Kovalyov;
  • The Guide by Oles Sanin.

“This autumn we have cut a great deal indeed and sold the rights for streaming a large package of Ukrainian films to Netflix on the territory of Ukraine. According to agreement terms and business ethics we had to keep it secret. So we just watched Ukrainian media carrying out their investigation and revealing this information, incomplete though, and public spreading the news. This shows that our feature films are in demand, they stir interest and excitement. All this inspires us to keep working on local and global distribution of Ukrainian films and shows,” says Yevhen Drachov, Film.ua Distribution Director.

Apart from this, in September 3 more Ukrainian films appeared on Netflix – The Wild Fields (based on Serhiy Zhadan’s novel Voroshylovhrad), Amber Cops and Class Reunion.

It shall be reminded that writer Iryna Tsilyk and producer Daria Bassel refused the grant program for creating screenplays from Ukrainian Film Academy and Netflix streaming platform.

It was reported before that Netflix has released a teaser for the new adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quieton the Western Front.
