New translations abroad: Yelyzaveta Zharikova’s prose and Andrey Kurkov’s prose

New books by Andrey Kurkov and Yelyzaveta Zharikova will be published in France and Poland, as announced by authors on their Facebook pages.

The second volume of Andrey Kurkov’s “Diaries of an Invasion” will be published in France in February 2025.

“The book year in Europe starts at the end of January — beginning of February. My book year begins in four weeks in France, where the second volume of the ‘Diaries of an Invasion’ will be published,” wrote Kurkov.

“The Smoke of Children’s Fires”, a book by Yelyzaveta (Liza) Zharikova, was published in Poland in October last year by Pogranicze Publishing House. The book is a bilingual poetry collection written during military service and the war. This publication also includes poems from previous collections, which, according to the author, fit the edition.

“I said nothing about it, but my book was released in October in Poland. Our unit had numerous losses back then, and these were hard times, so I wasn’t in a mood to write about it,” Zharikova commented.

Zharikova thanked the team of Pogranicze, specifically mentioning the translator Leszek Szaruga. Zharikova mentioned that her Ukrainian collection of war-inspired poetry is in the process of being developed. However, she plans to submit it to Ukrainian publishers once it is finished.

As reported earlier, the collection of short fiction “My Women” by Ukrainian writer, journalist and volunteer Yuliia Iliukha and the collection of short stories “Why I Never Get Tired of Living” by Ukrainian and Lithuanian writer, philosopher and critic Yaroslav Melnyk will soon be published in French.
