The russians have damaged or destroyed more than 300 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine

As of May 5, 2022, more than 300 crimes against cultural heritage by the russian military have been documented in Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reports.  

 

The crimes have been committed in 12 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv. The cultural heritage of the Kharkiv region has suffered the most. 

 

104 cultural heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed, including 17 monuments of natural importance, 81 of local importance, and 6 newly discovered cultural heritage sites. 

 

Religious buildings have suffered the most – 106. 

 

They have also damaged or destroyed 36 memorials to historical figures and events of the 19th – early 21st centuries, 22 buildings and complexes of museums and reserves, 46 houses of culture, theaters and libraries, as well as other valuable historical buildings.

 

The Ministry of Culture is collecting information about damaged cultural monuments.
