TikTok launches its own book award

TikTok launches its own book awards for the UK and Ireland segment to “recognize the works, authors, content, and creators of BookTok”.

The TikTok Book Awards, which will be voted for by users of the social network, will be divided into nine categories, including the best book of the year, BookTok author of the year, and BookTok creator of the year. Separate categories are provided for bookstores and publication design.

Based on BookTok’s data and information from publishers, a long list of nominees has already been formed. It will be further reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of popular bookmakers and industry experts.

The voting for the winners will start in July and they will be announced in August.

James Stafford, general manager for operations and marketing at TikTok UK and Nordics, said: “Every day, billions of people come to TikTok to share recommendations, discover new books, and connect through their love of literature. We’ve seen the impact of the #BookTok community when it comes to book sales and even attracting new customers to local bookstores.”

“The TikTok Book Awards are not only about the ‘best new books’ but also about celebrating the love of reading that we see on TikTok,” Stafford added.
