Serhiy Zhadan received the Schwarzkopf Europe Prize for the support of democratic values. This is reported on the website of the Schwarzkopf Foundation.

“Serhiy Zhadan is not only a great writer and musician, but he has also always shown courage. Having already actively supported the Orange Revolution and Euromaidan, Zhadan’s poetry and commitment stand for a vibrant Ukrainian civil society. In face of the war, he embodies a sign of hope – not just for Ukraine, but for all of Europe,” is stated on the website of the award.

Schwarzkopf Europe Prize is awarded to young Europeans, winners of a special program of the Schwarzkopf Foundation and the Delegation of the European Commission in Germany.

“I am grateful to the jury members for their support of Ukraine and attention to Ukrainian culture. I will repeat once again that nowadays all the prizes and awards presented to Ukrainian artists are presented to all Ukrainians. Every gesture of solidarity and every word of support is important to us. We must stand in this confrontation with the aggressor. We must protect our future, which will not exist without our culture,” Serhiy Zhadan wrote on his Facebook page.

The Schwarzkopf Europe Prize was founded in 2003. The prize honors institutions or people who participate in public life and support a peaceful, united and sustainable Europe.

Recall that Zhadan received the 2022 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
