Serhiy Zhadan won Jerzy Giedroyc Award – updated

Ukrainian poet and writer Serhiy Zhadan won the Award of Jerzy Giedroyć Poland-Lithuania Cooperation and Dialogue Forum 2022. He announced this on his Facebook page.

Besides him the award also was given to Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba, military chaplain Serhiy Dmytriyev, historian Nataliia Yakovenko.

The award ceremony took place in the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

The author mentioned that being awarded is a great opportunity to thank all Polish and Lithuanian people who support and help Ukraine and Ukrainians from the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion.

“Sometimes, history takes really bizarre steps, its moves are difficult to predict. Yet in the most decisive and crucial times history shows its internal logic. That is what happened during this war. It pit everything into place and made it clear who is your brave and fearless neighbor, the nation with dignity and respect towards other, and who is a deathly geopolitical monstrosity full of insecurities, disorders and total deeply-rooted chauvinistic insanity,” said Zhadan.

Jerzy Giedroyć Poland-Lithuania Cooperation and Dialogue Forum was established in May 2012 with development of Polish-Lithuanian relations in mind. Forum’s objectives include delivering collaborative projects concerning public life, including those focused on mutual learning about the history and culture of both nations.

Serhiy Zhadan is a Ukrainian poet, novelist, essayist, translator, and public figure. He’s also the frontman of the bands Zhadan and the Dogs and Mannerheim Line. His most famous works are novels Depeche Mode, Voroshilovgrad, Mesopotamia, The Orphanage, poetic collections Quotations, Ethiopia, Life of Maria, Templars, Antenna and others.

It shall be reminded that earlier this year Zhadan also won Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought 2022.

Previously it’s been reported that Serhiy Zhadan translated Lyapis Trubetskoy’s song Warriors of Light, which became symbolic for the Revolution of Dignity in 2014, into Ukrainian.
