King and Rowling books are illegally sold in Russia

The Russian online classifieds service Avito has posted messages about the sale of new books by Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, despite the fact that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, these authors forbade the publication and sale of their books in Russia. This is reported by a number of Russian-language media that have the status of “foreign agents.”

Stephen King’s Fairy Tale and Robert Galbraith’s The Ink Black Heart (pseudonym of J. K. Rowling) were allegedly published by the Luhansk-based «Трофейная книга» (Trophy Book) publishing house, whose existence has not been confirmed.

The books do not have ISBNs. Also, the source data does not contain the names of the translators.

A pirated version of Stephen King’s Fairy Tale has previously appeared on one of Russia’s largest websites with illegal content.

In March of this year, the Russian publishing company Exmo began selling the English-language version of Prince Harry’s memoirs, Spare, even though the book’s publisher, Penguin Books, had left the Russian market. Exmo’s managers came up with a scheme whereby they planned to import 100 copies of the book to Russia at a time in order to avoid entering into license agreements.
