The Ukrainian Library Association (ULA) has reiterated its request to the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) to deprive Russia of its membership. This is stated in the ULA appeal.

In the previous appeal, the Ukrainian Library Association called for support for Ukrainian librarians and the exclusion of the Russian Library Association and all institutions of the aggressor country from IFLA members, and their representatives from all IFLA governing bodies.

«On March 1, 2022, there was published a Statement on the IFLA website which expresses solidarity with Ukrainian colleagues, deep concern about the “situation” and “conflict” in Ukraine, as well as appeals to colleagues from other countries to support refugees from Ukraine. In this Statement, IFLA calls for the dissemination of truthful information, but russia is not even recognized as an aggressor», – said in the Ukrainian Library Association further appeal.

The ULA noted that it considers the entire russian society collectively responsible for the atrocities committed by the russian army in Ukraine.

«There is not just an armed conflict in Ukraine, but a full-scale bloody war of the russian federation against the Ukrainian people and the State of Ukraine», – ULA stressed and stated that they consider the silence and neutrality of the IFLA leaders unacceptable.

«We insist on our appeal to exclude the Russian Library Association and all institutions of the aggressor country russia from IFLA members, and their representatives from all IFLA governing bodies», – emphasized in the second appeal. The ULA also called for an official response.

It will be recalled that the Ukrainian Book Institute called for a total boycott of russian books in the world, and the Ukrainian Institute called on International Research Institutions to stop cooperation with russia. In addition, the Ukrainian comic’s community calls for ignoring russian comics.
