The “Espania” (Spain) publishing house, which will specialize in Spanish-language literature and books from Latin America, was founded in Ukraine.

The publishing house intends to release thrillers, detective stories, philosophical novels, and science fiction works translated from Spanish. Translator Victoria Dorofeeva, paramedic of the Hospitallers Medical Battalion, Kateryna “Bird” Polishchuk, and Ruslana Bondar, volunteer and founder of the Razom Unity charity foundation, are the co-founders of the publishing house.

Victoria Dorofeeva noted that the idea to create a publishing house occurred first when she was in her fourth year of studies at the university and was defending her thesis on the analysis of translations of novels by Chilean writer Isabel Allende and noticed that there was a lack of translated works from Spanish in Ukraine.

Kateryna Polishchuk underlines that “Espania” is a publishing house founded by people who care a lot about the future of Ukraine.

“I believe that the generation we are defending should read high quality and various books. That is the reason I am here, supporting the initiative of a volunteer, a military translator, the daughter of a serviceman, and an incredible person who promotes the culture of quality literature for everyone,” Polishchuk said.

“Our goal is not just to translate. We want to preserve the style, atmosphere, and cultural context of the works. We want to build a bridge between Ukrainian and Spanish readers, to promote mutual understanding and dialogue between the two cultures,” Bondar added.
