Four Roald Dahl’s short stories have been screened by Wes Anderson

Netflix will release four new short films by Wes Anderson in September, which are adaptations of Roald Dahl’s short stories: The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, The Swan, Ratcatcher and Poison. 

The short films will be released on Sept. 27, 28, 29 and 30.

According to the streaming service’s website, Anderson had been thinking about adapting the Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar for two decades. The difficulty was how to interpret Dahl’s words into the movie language.

“When I finally had the inspiration, this was my idea: “I’m as interested in the way Dahl tells the story, as I am interested in the story itself.” If I do it using his own words, his descriptions, then, maybe, I know how to make it into a movie,” Anderson said in his Netflix interview. Anderson decided to adapt four of Dahl’s short stories in an unpredicted way. The cast recites the author’s words directly to the audience, and the scenes switch as if it were a theater play.

Since 2018, it has been reported that Netflix will create a series of animated films based on Roald Dahl’s works, including: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) and others.

It was reported earlier that Netflix had bought the rights to screen all of Roald Dahl’s works for £370 million. The money was mostly received by the family of Roald Dahl but part of it went to create a charitable foundation to support partners in the fields of children healthcare, anti-hate and anti-racism programs.
