Kateryna Kalytko’s poetry volume Nobody Knows US Here, and We Don’t Know Anyone has been released in the USA. This was announced by the poetess on her Facebook page.

“What a curious time. A new book. It’s so happened that the volume on being a refugee, deportation and multiple trauma from forced loss of a home I wrote back in 2019. But now it feels even more acute,” says Kateryna.

The book was translated by Oksana Lutsyshyna and Olena Jennings, and released by Lost Horse Press.

“Sophisticated poetry volume deals with separations and changes, hinting at the ongoing war in Ukraine. One can intuit that the characters, succinctly depicted, are Crimean Tatars, Jess, or the displaced citizens of Ukraine, refugees from the occupied territories. However, these departures and parting, acute alienation and pain that permeate the poems, could also be read as elements of a more philosophical and global matrix, relevant to any region and each and every human being. Losses, wars and abandoned houses in Kalytko’s poetry are elevated to the realm of the universal myth of home and its loss, akin to the banishment from the garden of Eden,” goes in the annotation to the book.

It shall be reminded, that in 2018 the novella Water from Kalytko’s collection of short stories The Land of Forgotten, or Little Scary Tales was published in an American magazine.
