Kyiv Independent article wins European Press Prize

Journalists of the Ukrainian English-language media outlet The Kyiv Independent have won The European Press Prize. This was reported on the publication’s Telegram channel.

 

Anna Myroniuk and Alexander Khrebet’s article “Suicide missions, abuse, physical threats: International Legion fighters speak out against leadership’s misconduct” has earned first place in the Special Award category.

 

The journalistic investigation focused on alleged misconduct in the International Legion, a special military unit created for foreigners who volunteer to fight for Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

 

Earlier, this story also won the #AllForJan award in Poland. The story gained international attention and was covered by Gazeta Wyborcza, Der Spiegel, Deutsche Welle, The Telegraph, and US Business Insider.

 

Established in 2012 by a number of media foundations, The European Press Prize recognizes excellence in European journalism. The winners are recognized in five categories: investigation, reporting, innovation, public discourse and a special award.

 

As a reminder, Russia has killed 63 Ukrainian media workers since Feb. 24, 2022.
