Maksym Kryvtsov interview shortlisted for ‘Professional Honor 2024’ Award

On May 7, 2024, the 15th Ukrainian Professional Journalism Contest “Professional Honor 2024” announced the nominees in six main categories.

 

In the Best Interview category, Natalya Kornienko is a finalist for her interview, “Echoes from the frontline: Maksym Kryvtsov on war, poetry, and why Ukrainian youth give him hope,” from the “Words and Billets” series published by Chytomo. The shortlist includes Chytomo as the sole representative of media outlets covering cultural topics.

 

This year, the contest received a record 1,240 entries. The competition comprises six categories: Best Interview, Best Coverage of a Resonant Event, Best Analysis, Best Reportage, Best Investigation, and Best Opinion Journalism. The most competitive categories were Best Reportage and Best Interview, with 244 and 223 submissions respectively. Five pieces made it to the shortlist in each category, a few are available in English.

 

Among the shortlisted Best Interviews were journalistic works from Radio Liberty, Our City, the Zaporizhzhia Investigation Center, and Chytomo.

 

Among the Best Investigation nominees, Nataliya Gumenyuk and Anne Applebaum were shortlisted with the text “They didn’t understand anything, but just spoiled people’s lives” (The Reckoning Project).

 

In the Best Opinion Journalism category three out of five nominated texts are available in English:

Angelina Kariakina, “Three Stories of Pregnancy and Birth in Ukraine” (The New York Times)

Haiane Avakian, “Bakhmut, before it Vanished” (The Atlantic)

Olga Omelyanchuk “Get Ready to Fight” (The Reporters)
