Novel “Karbid” by Andriy Liubka will be published in Slovakia
31.08.2023Adventure novel “Karbid” by Andriy Liubka has been translated into the Slovak language.
The book will be published in the Slovak publishing house N Press, which also publishes Denník N, newspaper in Bratislava. The book is translated by Valeria Yurichkova.
The book will appear in Slovak bookstores starting with Sept. 27, and the first presentation will take place on Sept. 29 in Bratislava, and on Sept. 30 in Žilina.
In addition, Karbid will be a book of the month in October in the oldest independent bookstores network Artforum.
Karbid is an adventure novel by Andriy Liubka published at Meridian Czernowitz in 2015. That is the year this book appeared on the list of finalists of BBC Book of the Year. In 2017 Polish translation of the book became the finalist of Angelus Prize.
The book has been translated into English and Lithuanian, and was a longseller in Ukraine. A performance based on Karbid was staged in Wild Theater in 2021.

N Press is the publishing house that issues the Bratislava newspaper Denník N. According to the description on the website, it initially started with publishing books by the newspaper’s editors, and included books by other authors to the editorial plan a bit later. Since 2020 they have been publishing books in translation. “Both in the newspaper and books, we draw attention to things that other media do not cover, such as vulnerable groups of people, education or critical thinking,” the publishing house notes. The publishing house has also published “Dictionary of War” by Ostap Slyvynsky.
Karbid was translated into Slovenian in 2019 and into Serbian in 2021.
Andriy Liubka is Ukrainian writer, translator and poet. Member of PEN Ukraine. He often takes part in Ukrainian and international culture events, is a columnist in ART Ukraine, Radio Freedom, Ukrainian editions Kontrakty and Zbruch. After the full-scale invasion he became a volunteer.
