Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor blocked access to Facebook and Twitter in Russia. Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, stated this in his telegram channel.

«Russia has blocked Twitter! «Everything is according to George Orwell. The next step is the creation of the Ministry of Truth, the Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Prosperity, and the Ministry of Peace», – the minister noted.

Twitter was blocked shortly after Facebook. This is also evidenced by data from the GlobalCheck service, which monitors websites’ activity and users’ access to them.

Roskomnadzor noted that the reason for restricting access is «discrimination against the Russian media».

It should be recalled that Russia is also blocking access to a number of international news websites, including Deutsche Welle, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Medusa, and the BBC.

Also, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Ukrainian media were added to the Register of Banned Websites – Gordon, Korrespondent, and Ukrainska Pravda.
