At least four universities in Ukraine have been evacuated to other locations, Deputy Education Minister Andriy Vitrenko said during a national television marathon.

Karazin National University of Kharkiv has been completely destroyed by air strikes by the russian military and will be evacuated to new promises. Where the university will operate in the future is not yet known.

It was previously located at 6 Independence Avenue in Kharkiv.

«Our main task is to perverse Ukraine’s educational network, which will help rebuild the country. We are doing everything we can to not lose a single university», — Vitrenko added.

Several universities have already been evacuated: Kharkiv Biotechnology University, Chernihiv Polytechnic, Mariupol State University. The Luhansk State Medical University has also been evacuated to the Rivne Region because of hostilities.

N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was founded on 17 November 1804 by educator Vasyl Karazin and opened its doors on 29 January 1805. From 2009-2014 it was an autonomous research university.

Since the start of russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine, russian occupation forces have damaged more than 500 educational institutions.

In late March, Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet rejected an appeal by the Union of Rectors of Ukraine to cut the number of universities in Ukraine
