Russians have damaged at least 9 Ukrainian libraries

The Ukrainian Library Association and Library Country charitable fund are documenting the damage caused to Ukrainian libraries during russia’s war against Ukraine.   

As of March 13, the following have been damaged or destroyed: 

 

  • VG Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library
  • VV Mayakovsky Central Library, Kyiv district, Kharkiv
  • Central Scientific Library of VN Karazin Kharkiv National University
  • Chernihiv Regional Library for Youth
  • MM Kotsiubynsky Chernihiv Central City Library 
  • OP Dovzhenko Chernihiv City Library for Children 
  • Starobilsk Children’s and Youth Library, Luhansk Region
  • Sievierodonetsk City Public Library, Luhansk Region
  • Shulikiv Village Library, Luhansk Region 

 

In the evening of March 29-30, libraries in Chernihiv were also shelled.

Libraries and bookstores in Ukraine are being urged not to distribute books from russia
