Turkish writer Elif Shafak supports Ukraine and condemns Russian military aggression. She writes about this on her Twitter.

«Women, children, poor people, and minorities suffer the most in wars. We must always be on the side of peace, always on the side of democracy in the face of this terrible aggression and warmongering», – the writer wrote.

She also urged people not to be indifferent to the war in Ukraine, because this, according to Bernard Shaw, is the greatest sin. Elif Shafak noted that concern should also apply to protesters in Russia.

Shafak also distributes a memo on how to pronounce the phrase «Slava Ukraini» correctly.

In addition, she signed a joint statement from PEN International, in which the writers demand an end to the brutality caused by the Russian invasion in Ukraine and condemn the war. Elif Shafak also spreads calls to stop Vladimir Putin.
