The Ukrainian Institute branch established in the Netherlands
25.04.2025
The Ukrainian Institute has opened a foreign office in the Netherlands, with Yulia Malynovska serving as the Institute’s representative there. During a working visit to Amsterdam and the Hague, Ukrainian Institute Director General Volodymyr Sheiko introduced Malynovska to key partners. They also met with representatives from Dutch ministries, parliament, and major cultural institutions to discuss collaboration plans for the current and upcoming year.
“The Netherlands is a strategically important partner for Ukrainian cultural diplomacy. This country has a strong network of world-class cultural institutions and festivals that can become a platform for presenting Ukrainian art and culture. Our cooperation with Dutch partners opens up unique opportunities for the exchange of experience and joint initiatives that will help strengthen Ukraine’s presence on the European cultural map,” Sheiko said.
The branch office aims to incorporate Ukrainian culture into key events in the country as well as introduce the local cultural and educational community to Ukrainian figures, projects, and opportunities for cooperation.
Malynovska’s appointment became possible through cooperation with DutchCulture, the national office for international cultural cooperation.
“When culture is under attack, this must be part of our response. That is why we so deeply value our cooperation with the incredible team at the Ukrainian Institute. DutchCulture is extremely proud of this special partnership. We look forward to continued meaningful and creative exchanges between our countries,” said Kirsten van den Hul, Director of DutchCulture.
Among the institutions with which the branch office is already cooperating or planning joint projects: European Cultural Foundation, Mondriaan Fonds, Prince Claus Fund, Fonds Podiumkunsten, Nederlands Letterenfonds, and Cultural Emergency Response. Meetings were also held with the heads of such institutions as H’ART Museum, Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Eye Filmmuseum, De Balie Cultural Center, and Holland Festival.
As earlier reported, the first foreign mission of the Ukrainian Institute was opened in Berlin, and the second in Paris. UI is also a member of the EU Network of National Cultural Institutes (EUNIC).
