Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, one of the most reputable newspapers and online medias in Germany, published the list of cultural figures of the year, where Serhiy Zhadan took second place. This is stated on the official website of the paper.

The three leaders of the cultural rating are Iranian freedom fighters – women who dare to protest despite arrests and death sentences – journalists, sports coaches, schoolgirls or housewives; Serhiy Zhadan, Ukrainian poet and novelist; Salman Rushdie, world-famous American-British writer of Indian origin, winner of the Booker Prize in 1981, whose life was attempted in August.

“Until February 24, the day of the Russian attack, he was certainly the most famous Ukrainian writer of his generation, but since then he has become the face of all of Ukraine’s resistance,” – Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes about the Ukrainian writer’s activities. – “From this resistance, Zhadan speaks not only to the world, reporting on horrors and crimes against humanity, he speaks first and foremost to his own people.”

The media focuses on the charisma of Serhiy Zhadan, emphasizes his versatile activities and desire for peace, but only through the victory of Ukraine.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung is a daily national business newspaper that stands for independence, accurate analysis and presentation of facts. It is one of the most important sources of information in Germany. More than 800,000 people read it every day (as of 2021).

As a reminder, Serhiy Zhadan received the 2022 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
