A soldier, former bookseller Vasyl Doroshenko died at the front

A soldier of the 3rd separate assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a Plast scout, a volunteer, Vasyl Doroshenko was killed in the battles for Ukraine. Cultural manager Sofia Cheliak shared about it on her Facebook page.

“Vasyl Doroshenko died, and I can’t even find any photos of us together from before the war. I promise to hitchhike to Donetsk, as we once dreamed of doing in 2014. But you have already been to Donetsk, now it’s my turn. Super Vasyl, I love you so much,” she wrote.

 

“Vasyl was very charismatic and cheerful, creative and full of desire for justice. He spoke to russian-speaking visitors in Ukrainian, English, or Polish. Vasyl was interested in religion and history and could spend hours chatting with readers at the shelves of historical books. When he resigned from the bookstore, for more than a year, visitors came to us and asked to be consulted by Vasyl,” the page of the Ye bookstore, where Doroshenko worked for some time, reads.

 

Vasyl Doroshenko (nicknamed “Paladin”) was born in the village of Tyaziv in Ivano-Frankivsk region. He studied Finance and Credit at Ivano-Frankivsk State College of Technology and Business, graduating in 2013. He studied at the history program of the Faculty of Humanities in Ukrainian Catholic University in 2015-2017. Since the fall of 2021, he has been studying law at Lviv Polytechnic National University by correspondence.

 

He was fond of traveling, hitchhiking and reading. He worked at the Ye bookstore in Lviv.

 

From March 2020 to August 2021, he was a member of the Green Box NGO team, where he was in charge of logistics and sales. He also volunteered at the Tarilka NGO. Vasyl was a member of the Order of the Paladins reenactment society in Lviv. Participated in an archaeological expedition to the Olvia National Historical and Archaeological Reserve in Mykolaiv region.

 

Since 2021, he has worked at Terra Recycling, a waste sorting company.

 

He joined Plast in 2014 and earned a full membership.

 

From the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he volunteered for the front as a member of the 45th separate artillery brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From February 2023, he was a fighter of the 3rd separate assault brigade. He fought near Bakhmut. In May 2023, he was injured. After rehabilitation, he returned to service.

 

On August 13, 2023, Paladin was killed in a battle with the russian military. The place of death is currently being clarified.

 

On July 1, Ukrainian writer and volunteer Victoria Amelina tragically passed away due to serious injuries sustained during the Russian missile strike on Kramatorsk.
