One bookstore damaged and another destroyed by Russian shelling

On May 24, 2026, a Bukva bookstore in the Kvadrat shopping center was destroyed by Russian shelling. According to representatives of Bukva, the shelling ignited a fire that completely destroyed the bookstore’s premises, along with all books and equipment. The store in the Kvadrat shopping center had been operating for over 10 years.
Despite losing that location, the Bukva team will continue working. The bookstore announced that it plans to open a new store in Kyiv as early as next month.
“Take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Glory to Ukraine,” said a representative of Bukva.
As previously reported, the following sites were also damaged as a result of the Russian strike on Kyiv the night of May 23-24, 2026:
- The National Art Museum of Ukraine;
- Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- The Ancient Kyiv Preserve, and the National Chornobyl Museum;
- The building of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater;
- One of the Ye bookstore buildings;
- The offices of Ranok publishing house;
- Yaroslav the Wise National Library of Ukraine;
- The historic building housing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
- Two schools in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district
