Export of Polish books has increased more than 8 times during the period of the country’s membership in the EU

During the period of EU membership, exports of books and newspapers in Poland have increased more than eightfold to €2.3 billion in 2021. This is reported on the Rynek Książki website.

 

Poland’s share in world exports of printing products in 2021 amounted to 7.5%. It was 0.65% more than in the previous year and 1.66% more than in 2019.

 

In 2017, Poland was the third (after China and Hong Kong) exporter of picture books for children, including drawing and coloring books, the fourth exporter of books, brochures and postcards (8.2%), and the fourth world supplier of various types of calendars (6.2%).

 

In 2021, the value of Polish exports of printing industry products was 13.5% higher than in 2021, and compared to pre-pandemic 2019 – 17.1% higher.

 

Exports of books amounted to 1.15 billion euros, and their share in total exports of the industry was 49.7%.

 

Germany accounted for the majority of Polish exports of printing industry products. In 2021, they purchased over 85% of newspapers and magazines, 72% of picture books for children, 62% of various types of calendars and over 58% of books and brochures.

 

To recap, Poland ranks sixth in the number of books published among other European countries. The book market in Poland also grew the most among the EU countries in 2021.
