Federation of European Publishers to Ukrainians: And even books are fragile against bombs – continue publishing them

The Federation of European Publishers has condemned Russia’s all-out attack on Ukraine. The statement was published on the official website of the federation.

The Federation of European Publishers noted that Ukraine is a free country in a free Europe and has the right to peace, democracy, the safe life of its citizens and territorial integrity.

 

The request also include the words of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola: «This attack is a threat not only to Europe, but to the whole world».

 

«Our thoughts with the people of Ukraine and the region, and especially with our colleagues: authors, translators, publishers, booksellers and librarians. Continue to write, translate, publish, and share books. Books and readings are important for democracy, even if they are a fragile against bombs», – the federation referred to the Ukrainian book activists.

 

In statement the Federation of European Publishers note to feel themselves fortunate, that this year Ukraine is one of the countries, participating in the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL). «We believe that literature carries the message of peace and allows all European citizens to be ‘united in diversity’», – the federation added.

 

It will be recalled, that the International PEN has issued a statement demanding that Russia stop its attack on Ukraine. It was signed by 25 other regional PEN clubs. Moscow PEN, Romanian PEN, French PEN, Belarusian PEN and Georgian PEN expressed support.
