Latvia blocked access to more websites spreading pro-Russian propaganda

Latvia’s National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) blocked access to 10 more websites that, according to the regulator, were disseminating Russian propaganda.

Access has been restricted to such websites as pobedarf.ru, vgoroden.ru, orda-info.online, baikal-daily.ru, newsomsk.ru, gubdaily.ru, gorvesti.ru, volgadmin.ru, parmanews.ru, and pulse19.ru.

The NEPLP received information from a competent government agency indicating that these websites were disseminating one-sided and biased information about Russia’s war against Ukraine, rallying public opinion and media backing for Russian forces and fostering a sense of belonging and a positive attitude toward Russia and its actions.

According to the NEPLP, the activities of such websites could weaken social cohesion in Latvia, strain relations between various ethnic groups, and undermine shared values and a sense of belonging among Latvia’s residents to a unified information space. The council also believes that the dissemination of such information may affect Latvia’s solidarity with Ukraine and its support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The NEPLP has already taken similar actions against websites spreading Russian propaganda. In Nov. 2025, the council restricted access to 27 websites, which disseminated one-sided and biased information about Russia’s war against Ukraine, messages supporting the Russian military, as well as content that fostered a positive attitude toward the aggressor country.
