IPA is very concerned about the degradation of the freedom to publish situation in Hong Kong. This was posted on the Association’s website.

“The freedom to publish situation in Hong Kong is deteriorating rapidly. What was once a vibrant, free publishing market is being constrained, with cases like this clearly intended to scare other authors and publishers into self-censorship,” Kristenn Einarsson, Chair of the IPA’s Freedom to Publish Committee said.

The statement was published since earlier five speech therapists, turned authors and publishers, were sentenced to 19 months in prison.

International Publishers Association (IPA) is an international publishing industry federation of national publisher associations representing book and journal publishing. This non-commercial and non-governmental organisation was founded in 1896.

It shall be reminded that International Publishing community, IPA in particular, were deeply concerned about censorship in belarus.

As been reported earlier IPA called not to extradite Turkish publisher and human rights activist Ragip Zarakolu as part of compromise between Turkey and Sweden over Sweden’s membership of NATO.
