Following a large-scale Russian attack on Dnipro on April 14-15, 2026 involving drones, academic buildings and student dormitories at two universities were damaged. The strikes hit facilities at the National Technical University and the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology.

“Last night, the Russians deliberately attacked two universities in Dnipro. There were no military targets. The attack affected only residential homes in Dnipro, as well as sites that form part of the city’s cultural heritage and its scientific infrastructure,” Borys Filatov, Ukrainian politician, journalist, lawyer, businessman, and the current mayor of Dnipro, said. “It is extremely cynical that the attack took place on the very night that a day of mourning was declared in Dnipro. Yesterday, Russia killed five people.”

According to Filatov, tents have been set up at the damaged sites, where representatives of district administrations are receiving applications for the state e-Restoration program.

“Public services teams began clearing debris and glass from the streets before dawn. I am also in contact with the university staff. Although the universities are not under the jurisdiction of the local government, the city administration will assist in stabilizing the damaged buildings. Thank you to everyone who is working right now to help the victims. In this endless fear, we can only stand firm by standing shoulder to shoulder against this disaster,” Filatov added.

Dnipro Polytechnic University noted that the university building is “seriously damaged.”

“Our campus has been under an attack. The damage is severe, and we won’t pretend it’s something that can be easily overcome. This is a place where many people have found their path, built their careers, and formed a community, so seeing it like this is truly heartbreaking,” representative of the university wrote on their Facebook page.

The Instagram page of the Student Council of the Educational and Scientific Institute of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology announced that, due to significant damage to the university building, classes have been shifted to a fully remote format.

“Today was supposed to be the day when the academy’s students were to return to a hybrid learning format at the academy, but overnight, as a result of the Russian attack on Dnipro, Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology, sustained significant damage. Given the security situation, classes have been switched to fully remote learning until further notice. The admissions office building and the auditorium were damaged; the damage is extensive and will take time to repair. Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack,” representatives of the institute wrote.
