The shortlist for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction in 2023 includes the collection Geometries of Belonging by Ukrainian-American writer and translator from Ukrainian R. B. Lemberg. This was reported on the prize’s website.

“Set in the author’s vividly imagined Birdverse, these poems and stories travel through different parts of its cultures and customs, from the creation of art to the scholarly leanings of goats to the different forms love and romance can take. Whether told in letters or narrative verse, Lemberg’s stories explore power, gender, art, and acceptance,” the prize’s website says about the book.

In addition to the book by R.B. Lemberg, the shortlist includes:

  • Wolfish by Christine M. Andrews;
  • Arboreality by Rebecca Campbell;
  • Spear by Nicola Griffith;
  • Ten Planets by Yuri Herrera;
  • The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez;
  • Brother Alive by Zain Khalid;
  • Meet Us by the Roaring Sea by Akil Kumarasamy;
  • Drinking From Graveyard Wells by Yvette Lisa Ndlovu.

The winner will be announced in October.
