House-museum of a classic of Ukrainian literature flooded due to the explosion in Kakhovka
The museum-estate of the Ukrainian writer Ostap Vyshnia, located in the village of Krynky, Kherson region, was flooded due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russian armed forces.The restored house-museum of the classic Ukrainian satirical prose writer was opened in 2020. The museum’s exhibits include personal belongings and photographs of Ostap Vyshnia.
Prominent Kyiv book festival is about to happen
The Eleventh Book Arsenal (BA) will take place in Kyiv on June 22-25. The festival program includes about 100 events. In 2022, the festival was canceled due to the full-scale Russian invasion. The focus theme for the 2022 Book Arsenal was “The Migration Period,” curated by Oksana Forostyna.
1300+ Ukrainian book novelties are showcased in the online special project
For the international Book Arsenal festival Chytomo presented an online special project “Showcase of Novelties – The Year of Sustainability”. This project includes almost 1300 new books that were published during the year.
A Special IPA Award for Ukrainian writer
Ukrainian writer Volodymyr Vakulenko has become a Special Award laureate of the IPA Prix Voltaire Award 2023. On March 24, Volodymyr Vakulenko was kidnapped by Russian occupiers in the village of Kapytolivka near Izyum in the Kharkiv region. Later it became known that he had been killed.
Ukrainian writer died at the frontline
The poet, novelist, and author of the novel «Завод» (Factory) Ihor Mysiak died while defending Ukraine. He was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity. From the fall of 2014 to the end of summer 2015, he served in the Azov regiment, as an ambulance medic and a rescue fighter.
Russia has committed 514 crimes against Ukrainian media
This is stated in the monitoring data of the Institute of Mass Information (IMI). Namely, these include murder and wounding of journalists, cyberattacks, and broadcasting Russian propaganda.
British publishing house introduces bilingual books for children from Ukraine
Pineapple Lane, a publishing house that will specialize in creating bilingual books for Ukrainian children who have been displaced, has launched in the UK. PL has already released eight bilingual books (in English and Ukrainian).
