86% of cultural figures expect an increase in the popularity of Ukrainian culture

According to a recent survey* by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, 72% of Ukrainian cultural figures believe cultural products will become more patriotic as a result of russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.  

Producers of cultural products in Ukraine feel the war will “strengthen the patriotic component” (72% of respondents), and 77% expect an increase in demand for Ukrainian culture in general. Almost 60% expect that the aggression of the russian federation will result in a boycott not only of russia but also of the countries that support it. 53% of cultural figures expect there to be increased funding for Ukrainian culture from international partners, the diaspora, and investors abroad.

 

As for the international arena, most respondents believe the war may «increase demand for Ukrainian cultural products.»

 

51% of cultural figures expect that ties with countries that support russia’s aggression will be severed. 

 

They also expect that cultural trends in Ukraine (51%) and the world (44%) will change.

 

In addition, according to the poll, 56% of Ukrainian cultural figures believe that the war will lead to new sources of funding for culture.

 

The Ukrainian Cultural Foundation is fundraising to support Ukrainian culture and is calling on individuals and philanthropic organizations in Ukraine and abroad to join the initiative. The more than 500 million hryvnias UCF was to award for cultural projects in 2022 have been redirected to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight the russian federation.

* The online survey «Ukrainian culture in the context of russian armed aggression» was conducted from March 31 to April 8 among applicants, grantees, and experts of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
