Larysa Denysenko’s book «Maya and Her Mothers» will be published by the British publishing house Bonnier Books, and the proceeds will be donated to UNICEF to support Ukrainian children suffering from the Russian invasion. This was reported on Twitter by one of the publishing house’s divisions.

The British edition will be released in April under the changed name «Maya and Her Friends». The author wrote a preface to it in the corridor of her flat, hiding from rocket fire in Kyiv.

«As I write to you, rockets are flying outside my windows, and at a distance of 20 km from my house, Russian aggressors are destroying the suburbs of Kyiv», – the author wrote in her e-mail to foreign journalists.

In this e-mail, the author noted herself that the purpose of the new preface to the British edition was the need to talk about «how the fate of children has changed due to the war that cripples people’s lives in Ukraine».

She also called on the world to unite against the killing of children during the war in Ukraine.

«With this book, I want to appeal to the people of the democratic world: we are here, not far from you, we are people of freedom and peace. We have never attacked another country. Our children are talented, brave, beautiful and strong. We deserve the whole world to join us in fighting the war and against the killing of children», – the author wrote.

Larysa Denysenko is a Ukrainian writer, lawyer, human rights activist, TV presenter, radio presenter, and member of the Ukrainian PEN. «Maya and Her Mothers» is a picture book created in collaboration with illustrator Maria Foya. It was published in the spring of 2017 by the publishing house «Publishing House».

It is worth noting that the author of «Harry Potter» Joan Rawlings launched a petition to help 100,000 children who were placed in orphanages in Ukraine during the war.

Likewise, it should also be noted that an anti-war children’s book has been published in Georgia. The funds from which will be used to help Ukrainian children.
