Since February 24, 38 journalists died in Ukraine

During russian full-scale invasion, 38 journalists, both Ukrainian and foreign, were killed in Ukraine. This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his daily address. 

Zelenskyy also thanked the media employees for their “significant contribution to Ukraine’s struggle for freedom and independence”. 

 

Besides this, the President presented state awards to the media employees on the ocassion of the Independence Day of Ukraine. There were 34 journalists awarded, among which there were 30 representatives of Kyiv media, and 4 workers of regional outlets.

 

“Today, all those who are alive and who will forever remain in memory are equally heroes. Those who were and are at the front, and those who have not left their country since February 24 and reported the truth in the civilian sector,” the President noted.

 

It shall be reminded that on September 9, the cameraman from Priamyi channel, Oleksii Yurchenko who served in Ukrainian army died while liberating Balakliia, a town in Kharkiv region.

 

It was also reported earlier that as of May 19 28 journalists were killed by russian military since the beginning of russian full-scale invasion in Ukraine.
