Russian missile attack damages 3 museums in Odesa, including the Literary Museum

As a result of a Russian missile attack during the night on July 20 in Odesa, the Odesa Literary Museum was damaged. This was reported on its Facebook page.

The blast wave damaged most of the windows, affected the museum’s interiors, destroyed the ceiling in two halls and damaged exhibits.

No staff members were injured, and the museum immediately began the repair process.

In addition to the Literary Museum, the Odesa Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Western and Eastern Art were also damaged.

Windows and doors in the archaeological museum were damaged, and the building of the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Folk Art and Cultural and Educational Work, which was located in a local architectural monument, was completely destroyed, said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy.

“Last night, the occupiers attacked Odesa and Mykolaiv again. As a result, the buildings of a number of museums in Odesa were damaged and at least one monument in Mykolaiv was completely destroyed,” the minister wrote.

Tkachenko emphasized that the historic center of Odesa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is affected by Russian shelling, so the Ministry of Culture is preparing a letter to the organization describing the damage.

Earlier, the museum-estate of the Ukrainian writer Ostap Vyshnia, located in the village of Krynky, Kherson region, was flooded due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russian armed forces.
