Video sharing company YouTube has begun blocking all Russian federal media channels worldwide. It was announced by YouTube Head of Policy Communication Farshad Shadloo on his Twitter.

«Today, we began blocking RT & Sputnik’s YouTube channels across Europe. Since Russia began its invasion in Ukraine, we’ve been focused on removing violative content & connecting people to trusted news & information», – he wrote.

He explained that the Russian state media blocking is due to the company’s ban on spreading fake information about obvious and documented facts of violence by the Russian army in Ukraine.

«Our community rules prohibit denial, minimization, or trivialization of obvious well-documented facts of violence. We’ve removed hundreds of channels & thousands of videos for violating our Community Guidelines», — Shadloo pointed up.

Previously, due to «extremism», Instagram was banned in Russia. There is also limited access to Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

In addition, Roskomnadzor, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, blocked the site of the TV channel «Dozhd», and the board of directors liquidated the «Echo of Moscow» and the site of the radio station. At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ukrainian news sources «Gordon», «Korrespondent», and «Ukrainska Pravda» were added to the Register of Prohibited Sites in Russia, too.
