Chapter Ukraine, a catalogue of hundreds of Ukrainian books in translation, adds new feature to help readers find their perfect Ukrainian book match
02.10.2026
Chapter Ukraine, a global platform for Ukrainian books in translation, has introduced a new feature designed to help international readers discover Ukrainian literature by matching books they already enjoy with Ukrainian titles available in English translation.
The recommendation tool was launched to mark International Translation Day on Sept. 30. Users can enter the title of any book they have read and enjoyed, and Chapter Ukraine will suggest a Ukrainian book in English translation that they might like to read next.
For example, entering Erich Maria Remarque’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” generates a selection that includes Andrey Kurkov’s “Grey Bees,” Serhiy Zhadan’s “The Orphanage,” Yuri Vynnychuk’s “Tango of Death,” and Artur Dron’s “Hemingway Knows Nothing.”

Entering Ernest Hemingway’s “A Farewell to Arms” generates another selection, including Artem Chekh’s “Absolute Zero,” Maria Matios’s “Hardly Ever Otherwise,” Artem Chapeye’s “The Weathering,” and Yaroslav Trofimov’s “Our Enemies Will Vanish.”

The tool currently works in English, with German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Czech versions expected to follow. It is intended both for readers who are interested in Ukrainian literature but do not know where to start and for librarians and booksellers looking for a quick way to recommend Ukrainian titles. Chapter Ukraine also used the launch to highlight the role of literary translators in bringing Ukrainian books to readers in other languages.
Chapter Ukraine was launched in September 2025 by Chytomo and Craft in partnership with Snig.Digital, Kavi.Agency, PEN Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Book Institute. The platform brings together information about Ukrainian books available in foreign-language translations, including details about publishers, translators, distributors, reviews, awards, and media coverage.
In addition to the new recommendation tool, users can filter the catalogue by genre, theme, or historical period, create their own selections, and share them with libraries and bookstores.
Since its launch, Chapter Ukraine has expanded its language coverage. In December 2025, the platform launched a French-language catalogue featuring more than 100 Ukrainian books from 34 publishers. Chapter Ukraine also offers catalogues of Ukrainian books translated into English, German, and Spanish.
As reported earlier, the project has also developed an international volunteer network that works with libraries and bookstores to help integrate Ukrainian books into their collections and create dedicated Ukrainian bookshelves.
