In 14 countries worldwide, streets and squares were named in honor of Ukraine

In solidarity with Ukraine, about 20 streets and squares in 14 countries around the world were renamed or named in honor of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Facebook.

In particular, streets were renamed in the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Albania, Slovakia, Norway, Canada, Hungary, Estonia, Sweden, France, Iceland, Luxembourg, and the USA.

 

In 6 of these countries (in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Albania, Norway and Canada), “Ukrainian” names were given to the streets and squares where russian diplomatic missions are situated.

 

Thus, abroad were renamed:

  • The USA, New York — crossroads of Brighton Beach Avenue and Coney Island Avenue were renamed to Ukrainian Way.
  • The Czech Republic, Prague — street, where the russian Embassy is situated, was renamed to Ukrainian Heroes street.
  • France, Cannes – one of the city squares was renamed after Taras Shevchenko.
  • Luxembourg – overpass №3 will be named Kyiv Boulevard in honor of the capital of Ukraine.
  • Poland, Gdansk – a square, opened close to the russian Consulate General, was named after the Heroic Mariupol.
  • Sweden, Stockholm – a part of the Marieberg Park near the russian Embassy will be called the Place of Free Ukraine.
  • Iceland, Reykjavík – the area near the russian Embassy was named after Kyiv as a sign of support for the Ukrainian nation.
  • Lithuania, Vilnius – street, where the russian Embassy is located, was renamed to Ukrainian Heroes’ Street.
  • Latvia, Riga – street, where the russian Embassy is located, was renamed to Ukrainian Independence Street.
  • Albania, Tirana – street, where the russian and Ukrainian Embassies are located, was renamed to Free Ukraine Street.
  • Slovakia, Bratislava – street, where the russian Embassy is located, was renamed in honor of the murdered russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.
  • Norway – in Frogner, the square was renamed to Ukraine Square.
  • Canada, Ottawa – street, where the russian Embassy is situated, was renamed Free Ukraine Street.
  • Hungary, Budapest – metro station “Bajza utca” (Bajza street) was temporarily renamed to station “Ukraine”.
  • Estonia, Tallinn – one of the city squares was renamed to Ukrainian Square.

 

The renaming took place within the Ukraine Street campaign.
